I very rarely paint animals or people into my landscapes but much to our delight, these three deer kept visiting our backyard while we were in Sunriver, Oregon. I decided I had to at least try to paint them so I stepped quietly outside and painted at the picnic table. Of course they were long gone by the time I'd finished but I used pictures I'd taken on my phone to help fill in the parts my memory wasn't so sure about.
6" x 9" paper
Watercolor and ink on hand-made paper
I call them "sketches" because of how quickly I create them--usually between 20-60 minutes--and they're nearly always created "en plein air" (outside, on location), using water from the painting's subject, while my kids are playing.
