I painted this sitting on a bench on the banks of the Deschutes River while my young kids played hide-and-seek amongst the trees and river grass. We were halfway through a long bike ride and it was a delightful break. I could've sat there and watched the colors dancing in the slowly-moving river for hours.

I call them "sketches" because of how quickly I create them--usually between 20-60 minutes--and they're nearly always created "en plein air" (outside, on location), using water from the painting's subject (in this case, the river), while my kids are playing.
