My time at the Ranch during my art residency was such a respite from the busyness of modern life. I was off grid, disconnected from my phone and from deadlines, with nowhere I had to be and no to-do lists to work through. The stillness was amazingly refreshing. I thought about the hard work the early settlers had put it to carve out this little haven. It was definitely not an easy life. And yet, the way they were connected with the land - waking with the sun and depending on the change of the season lent itself to more natural rhythms than modern life. Leaning into that connection was a wonderful respite.
